The Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) is a French-language public university located in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. Established in 1969, Université du Québec à Rimouski is home to nearly 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Located along the Saint Lawrence river and in the heart of the Bas-St-Laurent region, UQAR is part of the larger Université du Québec network, a public university network operating across all of Canada.
UQAR offers more than 80 undergraduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and fisheries sciences. Students can enroll in graduate level programs in various disciplines, such as ecology and fishing, risk and insurance, engineering, modern languages and applied sciences.
UQAR also has one of the most successful fishery programs in all of Canada. Its Oceanography Research Station is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the study and protection of the St. Lawrence River. Run by over 50 researchers from around the world, the station investigates the ocean and its impact on marine organisms in order to develop strategies for sustainable development of the oceanâ??s resources.
The campus of UQAR promotes a well-rounded student experience that includes athletics, recreation and arts. The university has a variety of associations and clubs for students to join that explore a variety of interests, from music to marine science. The generous student center has various restaurants, cafés, a bookstore and a cinema.
